All good things must come to an end. Outlaw/5J Rodeo Company will have an open slot in their schedule this July as the Mark Twain Lake Rodeo committee has announced after 30 plus years they will no longer be holding their annual Fourth of July Weekend Rodeo.
“It was a great honor to team up with such a wonderful committee for so many years,” said Lance McCollum, owner/operator of Outlaw/5J Rodeo. “They put on one of the largest rodeos in the area and have numerous awards to show for all their hard work. While its sad to see this tradition come to an end, we know that it couldn’t go on forever.”
Outlaw/5J have rodeos all over the state of Missouri and into portions of Illinois. While some of their rodeos and bull rides are held during area fairs and festivals, they take great pride in partnering with committees that have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for causes such as cancer and MDA research.
“Honestly, we just try to put on a good, fun show – it’s the contestants that really bring everything together. While their ultimate goal is to take home the big check at the end of the night – they know if they don’t perform then people won’t come through the gates year after year and money isn’t raised for much needed research,” commented McCollum. “And you wouldn’t believe the number of times these contestants donate their winnings back to the committees to help with their fund-raising efforts. They do it because in the rodeo world – we back our own. It’s like one huge, crazy family and we wouldn’t have it any other way.”
Outlaw/5J Rodeo Company still has a full schedule for the upcoming summer that will be posted on their website in a couple of months. If a committee would like to check the availability of a specific date or would like to see if one of the dates just announced are still open – you can contact Lance at 573-470-6888.
